Corporate giants and multinational monopolies already control the vast majority of our food supply, prioritizing their endless drive for profit over the health of our families and the livelihoods of independent farmers. As federal farm policy is debated, we are at a crossroads.
We shouldn’t have to choose between food that is affordable and food that is healthy, safe, and produced in a way that aligns with our values. Yet, massive agricultural monopolies are actively working to strip local communities of their right to demand better food standards, while driving the independent farmers who care for our land out of business.
It is time to reclaim our food system from "Big Ag" and build a future that works for hardworking Americans.
I stand with UpRoot in demanding federal farm policy that:
- Protects States’ Rights: States and communities must preserve the right to set and enforce higher health, welfare, and safety standards for the food their citizens consume, rather than allowing corporate interests to override local laws.
- Stop Giveaways to Multinational Corporations: It is time to end the massive taxpayer subsidies and unfair advantages handed to corporate monopolies, leveling the playing field for independent farmers.
- Invest in Local and Regional Food Systems: It is beyond time to decentralize our food supply to build resilient, community-based networks that connect consumers directly with independent producers.
- Make Healthy Food Affordable for All: We need to bridge the gap between quality and cost, ensuring that high-quality, nutritious food is accessible to every American, not just the wealthiest few.
- Champion Regenerative Agriculture: For years our policy put farmers in the never ending trap of industrialization. It now must provide real, structural support and investment for independent farmers and ranchers who want to transition to truly regenerative practices that heals the soil, protects our water, respects animals and sustains communities for future generations.
