Donald Trump’s pick to be the next chairman of the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh, has a net worth north of $100 million — and that’s not counting his wife’s estimated $2 billion fortune — which would make him far and away the wealthiest person to ever hold the post. On top of his staggering wealth, questions abound concerning his independence from — and subservience to — the president who badly wants him installed as soon as possible.
Tell your senators to REJECT Kevin Warsh as the next Fed chairman!
Warsh previously served as a Fed governor from 2006 to 2011, a period which included the worst financial crisis in America since the Great Depression, caused in large part by years of artificially low interest rates that fueled the largest housing bubble in US history to inevitably burst.
And that’s before we even get to Trump.
The current Fed chair, Jerome Powell, has been become something of a thorn in Donald’s side since the MAGA cult leader returned to office. Powell has rebuffed the president’s repeated demands to lower interest rates, insisting on maintaining the Fed’s historic independence from the partisan whims of those leading the federal government. For his principles Powell has been persecuted, prosecuted, and all but branded a traitor by the very man who appointed him in 2017.
Trump clearly sees something he likes in Kevin Warsh and cannot wait to see him take Powell’s place when the current chairman’s term expires in May. We should all be asking why. During recent Senate hearings, Warsh was caught red-handed — under oath! — denying that he’d promised the president to slash interest rates once installed. Unfortunately for Kevin, Trump had already gone on the record — with The Wall Street Journal, no less — confirming that Warsh would, in fact, do just that.
Kevin Warsh does not have the moral integrity or demonstrated independence required to lead the Federal Reserve, especially at a time when the president of the United States is doing everything in his power to shatter every governmental norm in the book.
