The Trump administration’s quest to make everything more expensive for everyone continued apace this week, with the announcement that it will end Medicare’s highly successful Part D premium subsidies, which have saved millions of seniors billions of dollars on prescription drug prices since their introduction during the Biden administration.
Tell the Trump administration NOT to raise drug prices for millions of seniors!
Dr. Oz, the former (and future) TV snake oil salesman who is still somehow running the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), claimed that seniors will barely feel the cost increase when the subsidies disappear later this year, despite reports that nearly half of current Part D enrollees — roughly 25 million Americans — will see premium hikes in 2027.
Oz justified the cuts, calling Medicare’s public prescription drug offering a "bailout for insurers,” but the truth is, killing off Part D subsidies will directly impact the very people least able to absorb the increase — seniors getting by on fixed incomes. With average premiums around $35 per month, Medicare Part D is already more than four times higher than the typical premium for people using Medicare Advantage, the privatized version of Medicare. Killing off prescription drug subsidies for seniors will only make things worse.
Tell the Trump administration to keep their hands of Medicare and restore prescription drug subsidies now!
