When the Supreme Court overturned 50 years of legal precedent with its disastrous Dobbs decision in 2022, the right to reproductive healthcare in America was thrown into chaotic disarray overnight. Some states already had draconian bans in place waiting for the high court's hammer to fall, while others moved swiftly to deny women safe, legal access to abortion care, no matter the circumstance. Since 2022, dozens of clinics have closed across the country and doctors in some areas have hesitated to treat miscarriages and pregnancy emergencies for fear of criminal prosecution. Some cases have even proven fatal.
Tell Democrats to restore abortion rights the moment they retake the House!
Poll after poll consistently shows that a solid majority of Americans want abortion access legalized at the national level. But the current patchwork of red-state bans has left millions without care, putting countless lives needlessly at risk. Fundamental rights should not simply vanish at a state line or succumb to the whims of right-wing extremists running amok in state legislatures.
When Democrats win back the House in November, Congress must pass a federal law guaranteeing safe, legal access to abortion immediately. Every day Americans go without reproductive healthcare rights codified at the national level is a day too long. The new Democratic majority must restore the protections that were in place before Dobbs, protect patients and providers from criminal prosecution, and ensure equal access to care, state lines be damned.
