Tell Donald Trump to end his ridiculous trade war with Canada!
Donald Trump’s idiotic tariff crusade has now led to a full-blown trade war with Canada — yes, Canada! — as our closest ally and formerly friendly neighbors to the north finally responded to the president’s repeated provocations with $20 billion dollars in retaliatory tariffs of their own. In addition to being poor economic policy, Trump’s trade war with Canada makes no sense politically. With less than 60 days to go until the midterms, the president’s pointless trade war is impacting the exports of Wisconsin cheese, Maine seafood, and Kentucky whiskey and appliances — all states with critical Senate seats in play this November.

Trump laughably called Canada “one of the worst countries in the world to deal with,” a characterization so comical it sounds like a riff from the South Park movie. Donald may be the one doing the kicking and screaming, but American farmers, manufacturers, distillers, and consumers are the ones paying the price, literally.
It’s time for ANY adult left in the room at the White House to force Trump back to the negotiating table, drop his sophomoric antics, and deliver a trade deal that doesn’t punish American workers and consumers to score political points or stroke his insatiable ego. We can’t believe this needs stating, but Canada is NOT the enemy; the Canadian people are our longest-standing trade partners and closest allies. They have bought American products, fought alongside American troops, and shared the longest undefended border in the world with us for centuries. Enough already.
