Fascism has come for America. A Trump-appointed judge in Texas has just passed down maximum sentences for a group of anti-ICE protesters, who were charged with terrorism. One of the defendants wasn't even present at the protest and was merely distributing anti-ICE flyers and zines.
As if it wasn't clear enough what was happening, the judge himself spelled it out, saying from the bench that “the state wants to send a message to anyone who shares a similar ideology.” The ideology, of course, being empathy for one's fellow man and opposing a for-profit concentration camp system where innocent people are subjected to degrading conditions based on the geographic coordinates of their birth.
Commute the outrageous 50-year-sentences given to anti-ICE protestors!
Benjamin Song, who shot a police officer in the arm after he appeared to be drawing his weapon to shoot the protestors, received 100 years in prison.
His fellow protesters Zachary Evetts, Autumn Hill, Savanna Batten, Elizabeth Soto and Meagan Morris were sentenced to 50 years in prison. Maricela Rueda, another demonstrator, was sentenced to 70 years in prison.
The implications of this are DEEPLY disturbing. “If you’ve ever worn black to a protest, used Signal, or carried a first aid kit, a federal jury just decided that can all be evidence of terrorism,” writes organizer Hannah Riley Fernandez on Twitter.
With Trump judges installed across the country, Trump and his goons are clearly ready to hand down massive sentences in kangaroo courts in order to brutally punish anyone who dares to protest his appalling persecution of immigrants.
These sentences must be commuted immediately.
Free the anti-ICE protesters sentenced to FIFTY YEARS in prison by a Trump judge!
