Demand Trump pay taxpayers back for his fascist TV propaganda!
The White House began running blatantly partisan, pro-Trump television ads in September, heaping hyperbolic praise on the wannabe dictator and presenting him as some sort of modern-day warrior thwarting nebulous attacks on American freedom from enemies both foreign and domestic — complete with an accompanying chyron explaining exactly who was footing the bill: "Paid for by the US government."
Tell Trump to reimburse US taxpayers for his fascist MAGA propaganda campaigns!
It should go without saying, but the US Treasury is not Donald Trump’s personal piggy bank, no matter how grandiose his delusions or insatiable his ego. After days of pushback across the political spectrum, someone in the Trump regime apparently got the message. The wannabe dictator subsequently took to Truth Social to explain that, going forward, his super PAC, MAGA Inc., would pick up the bill for the remainder of the ad campaign.
That's all well and good, but the US government already spent millions to pump his fascist glow-up slop across the airwaves, and the window for a refund is most certainly still open.
This is an egregious misuse of public funds at best, and a downright criminal act at worst. Jamie Raskin, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee suggested as much, tweeting: “This may be felony criminal theft and conversion of government property for political campaign purposes.” As usual, Jamie’s got a point.
Unlike so many of the messes the MAGA cult leader makes, this one could be cleaned up rather quickly with a simple reimbursement for goods and services we the people never wanted to pay for in the first place.
