A shocking new report from the United Nations has conceded that humanity has squandered its chance to prevent some of the worst of global warming’s harms by failing to adequately reduce carbon emissions.
We are now doomed to live in a world above the disaster-threshold of 1.5 degrees of warming – but there’s still time to mitigate the worst effects…if we act now, and act fast.
“If we act now we can limit overshoot,” the report said. “Not a safe world, but safer than remaining above” 1.5 degrees for the long term.
Demand our leaders act ASAP to bring global temperatures back under the danger zone!
The 1.5 limit is not “some magical climate cliff” where it’s just game over, said University of Victoria climate scientist Andrew Weaver. “Every tenth of a degree we avoid still means less damage.”
The devastating flash floods in Nepal are a terrifying reminder of we're facing if we don't get climate change under control. That’s going to mean some politically controversial decisions by our leaders and the will to make it happen – and it never will, unless the people stand up and demand our voices be heard.
Add your name to demand our leaders act ASAP to bring global temperatures back under the danger zone!
