Trump’s Department of Homeland Security, the same department that runs ICE, just got a military “heat ray” from the Pentagon. It fires an invisible beam that makes your skin feel like it’s burning. The agency says it’s reviewing the device for “crowd control,” and during Trump’s first term, officials considered using it on protesters after George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis.
This is the same department whose agents fired at least seven rounds at a father in New York with his five-year-old son in the car, and tased and pinned a US citizen in Long Beach while he screamed that his arm was broken. Immigration agents have shot and killed at least 11 people since Trump returned to office, and at least 56 more have died in ICE detention.
Abolish ICE!
There is no reforming this behavior. For two years we have watched ICE behave with shocking impunity, acting like Gestapo agents who are somehow above the law. They kill whenever they feel like it, they treat American citizens and legal residents with horrific brutality, and they violate our civil rights on a daily basis.
No amount of “training” or body cams or institutional reforms can fix this. This agency was born of bigotry in the days after 9/11 by the George W. Bush administration and should be fully dismantled. Furthermore, everyone involved in carrying out or rubber-stamping the endless litany of illegal acts committed by the agency should be prosecuted.
Abolish ICE!
